Mangaluru: Installation of signal jammer within the prison premises have caused an inconvience to all those those who work and reside in the surroundings of district jail in Mangaluru
The installation of 5G jammers were taken up to block mobile communication inside the prison.
However, it has been affecting all in nearby areas of the prison. People have been experiencing poor internet connections, frequent call drops after the installation of 5G jammers was taken up.,
In an open letter, Cardiologist Dr Padmanabh Kamath said a jammer has been installed within the district jail premises at Kodialbail to curb illegal mobile usage by inmates and miscreants.
While the intention behind this measure is understandable, it has resulted in significant collateral damage to the residents in and around a one-kilometre radius of the jail.,
“As a resident of Kodialbail and a practising doctor, I personally experienced the severe impact of this disruption. On Sunday, a patient from Horanadu, suffering from a heart attack, made multiple attempts to contact me while on his way to the city. Unfortunately, due to the jammer, none of his calls reached me. It was only when my postgraduate personally came to inform me that the patient arrived that I was able to rush to the hospital in time and perform a life-saving angioplasty.
"Had I not been informed in time, the consequences could have been tragic. This situation poses a serious threat to public safety, particularly to the medical community, whose ability to respond to emergencies is being compromised.
"Therefore, I urge the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City Civic authorities, Mangaluru City Corporation, and the local MLA to take immediate action to restore network connectivity while ensuring that jail security remains intact. The inability to communicate in critical situations can lead to irreversible loss of life. I hope the concerned authorities will address the matter at the earliest to prevent further inconvenience and potential tragedies.”,
Assembly Speaker U T Khader said the inconvenience met by the people in the surroundings of prison after the installation of jammer has come to my notice and will discuss with the officials to solve the issue.,
Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara while replying to a starred question by MLC Ivan D’Souza in the council had said that five mobile jammers installed at the prison are being repaired and upgraded to 4G/5G. M/s TCIL and the department of telecommunication have been asked to take steps to ensure that the public are not inconvenienced with the jammer.
