Answering a query from reporters on allegations of rampant corruption in the State and the silence of the Centre, he said the Centre could not act on them, but the Lokayukta could initiate action.

“We are not doubting the abilities of the Lokayukta. But the action initiated by the Lokayukta is not sufficient,” he said and added the Lokayukta had sufficient powers, which were not utilised effectively.

However, Moily refused to comment when his attention was drawn to the name of a former chief minister (Dharam Singh) being omitted following directions from the then Governor, even though the Lokayukta had recommended initiation of action. Moily said the matter was left to the Governor and the Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta had also recommended that the loss to the State due to the illegal mining lease being issued, be recovered from the former chief minister.
