Bengaluru: The Lokayukta police’s searches on Wednesday found a senior Karnataka IAS officer possessing over Rs nine crores of assets disproportionate to her income.

The Lokayukta officials launched simultaneous raids on eight government officials, including IAS officer Vasanthi Amar BV, who is the Special Deputy Commissioner, Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE). The raids were held in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kalaburgi, Koppal and Kodagu.

Officials searched five premises belonging to the IAS officer and found that she possessed three sites, four houses, three acres of agricultural land, all valued at Rs 7.40 crore.

The searches also revealed Rs 66,390 cash, Rs 12 lakh worth of ornaments, Rs 90 lakh worth of vehicles and Rs 60 lakh worth of other household items, all valued at Rs 1.62 crore, as per a Lokayukta statement.

It is pertinent to note that Vasanthi was recently booked by the Halasuru Gate police in Bengaluru for allegedly passing an illegal land order in her previous posting.

The others who were raided were H V Yarappa Reddy, Executive Engineer, C V Raman Nagar Division, BBMP, Bengaluru (Rs 2.62 crore in disproportionate assets (DA)); Bagli Maruti, Assistant Director, Department of Urban and Rural Planning, MS Building, Bengaluru (Rs 6.34 crore in DA); Venkatarama B, Office Assistant (Admin), MCC, Mysuru Incharge, AC Zone-5, MCC, Mysuru (Rs 3.71 crore in DA); Rajesh M, AEE, KIADB, Tumkur (Rs 3.67 crore in DA); Sunil Kumar, EE, Health and Family Welfare Department, Kalaburgi (Rs 4.34 crore in DA); Shekhu Chavhan, Deputy Director, Dist. Industries Centre (DIC), Koppal (Rs 3.11 crore in DA); Manjunathaswamy M, Joint Director(Incharge), Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department (Rs 5.20 crore in DA).

"Simultaneous searches at the residences, offices and residences of the relatives of the concerned Accused Government Officers (AGOs) were conducted at more than 41 places," the Lokatukta said in a statement.
