Lokayukta SIT arrests Ashwin's friend in graft case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the corruption and extortion cases involving the Lokayukta office, on Friday arrested Narasimha Rao, a friend of the main accused, Yerabati Ashwin, the son of Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.

Narasimha Rao was arrested based on a complaint filed by businessman- turned-politician P N Krishnamurthy.The SIT arrested Rao at Adarsh Nagar in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday night.

Krishnamurthy had stated in the complaint that he had contacted Ashwin through Rao. The SIT officials moved an application seeking the custody of Rao for interrogation. The special court judge V G Bopaiah remanded Rao in police custody till August 26.

According to the complaint, Krishnamurthy had contacted Ashwin for getting a khata for his property in Koramangala, Bengaluru (survey number 115/10). Ashwin had demanded Rs 20 lakh to get the work done and Krishnamurthy claimed he had paid Ashwin and Rao Rs 10.91 lakh in seven instalments since September 19, 2014.

The complaint further states that on September 19, 2014, Krishnamurthy had paid Rs five lakh to Ashwin at a star hotel room.

On October 13 and 19 the same year, he paid Rao Rs four lakh in two equal instalments. Interestingly, Krishnamurthy claims to have credited Rs 50,000 on November 18, 2014, and Rs 40,000 on December 5, 2014, to Rao’s ICICI Bank account in Hyderabad.
