“We have lost everything. Food grains and household articles have been washed away in the floods. It is just God’s mercy that we have survived,” Somavva, a victim said.

Recalling her encounter with near-death, Somavva said, “Water gushed into our houses at about 2.30 am on Thursday. We left behind our belongings and ran for safety with children. Earlier, we took shelter near Hanuman temple and Dyamamma temple. There was no respite here also and water was flowing above our shoulders. The rail track in the village was washed away and with that the water was diverted to the other side. After a nightmare and a miracle, we are here today,” she narrated.

Sakamma has now taken shelter at a primary school in the City. The gruel centre at the school has been provided with 20 quintals of rice, dal and two LPG cylinders. But, the quality of rice is very poor and seems stinking, they say. Apart from this, the major problem the inmates are facing is acute shortage of clothing as everything has been washed away. People are shivering in the cold during night. However, several private enterprises and NGOs have been supplying drinking water and clothes. When questioned they said that minister Shobha Karandlaje visited some houses and returned.
