Bengaluru: The state government appointed former advocate general Madhusudhan R Naik as chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes for a three-year term on Friday.
The post was vacant since March 2024 when then chairperson K Jayaprakash Hegde became the Congress’ Lok Sabha election candidate for the Udupi-Chikmagalur segment.
In June last year, the government issued a notification appointing Principal Secretary (Law, Justice & Human Rights) G S Sangreshi as chairperson of the Commission.
However, this was withdrawn and Sangreshi was appointed as the State Election Commissioner.
Atheeq retires, hands finance charge to Ritesh
Senior IAS officer L K Atheeq retired from his 33-year career as a bureaucrat on Friday.
He handed over the charge to 1996-batch officer Ritesh Kumar Singh, the new principal secretary of the finance department.
From Saturday, Atheeq will continue as the additional chief secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on a contract basis.
