Keeping the 2018 Assembly polls in mind, the women’s wing of the ruling Congress will launch a ‘Gramavastavya’ outreach programme from Chikkamagaluru to coincide with the 100th birth anniversary of former prime minister Indira Gandhi next month.
The Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee will also scale up its ‘arishina-kumkuma’ programme as part of which the party’s women workers will visit households and offer turmeric and vermilion in an effort to woo voters. This programme is already underway in 15 districts and will be extended to the rest of the state by the end of this month, Mahila Congress state president Laxmi R Hebbalkar said.
These outreach programmes will supplement the party’s ‘Mane Manege Congress’ programme that was launched last month.
“We have decided to organise an ‘Indira Namana’ event in November. Also, a two-day workshop will be held this month on the importance of women in the 2018 polls and the need for more and more women to participate in the election,” Lakshmi said.
The women’s wing will also stage protests against the “anti-democratic” decisions taken by the BJP-led Centre along with street plays, essay competitions and debates.
