Balehonnuru, Chikkamagaluru: Following a woman’s death, her husband has been arrested by the police over allegation of dowry harassment.
Avinash of Gubbugodige near Halasuru village, is the accused.
His wife Mamata (31) died under mysterious circumstances.
Mamata's father-in-law Narayanagowda, mother-in-law Anasuya, and sister-in-law Amita have gone missing.
Mamata married Avinash on May 27, 2020.
Although 110 grams of gold ornaments were given at the time of the marriage, her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law allegedly subjected her to mental and physical abuse, and pressured her to bring more dowry.
Unable to bear this, she had returned to her home. Despite giving Avinash Rs 50,000 through Google Pay, the harassment did not stop, a complaint filed by her brother Mahesh stated.
On January 26, 2025, Avinash informed that Mamata's family that she had fits and admitted her to the hospital.
Upon inquiring with Avinash's uncle about this, he stated that Mamata had attempted suicide by hanging herself, and suspicion has been raised about her death, the complaint said.
A case has been registered and an inquiry has been initiated.
