Madikeri: A 65 year old man died in an elephant attack at the Emmegundi Estate near Ponnampet in Kodagu district’s Virajpet taluk on Thursday morning.

The deceased is Chella (65). He was a retired supervisor of a coffee plantation and had gone out for a morning walk around 6:30 am when a wild elephant attacked him.

He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Forest department staff have launched a search operation for the elephant in the area.

Gangadhar, the Range Forest Officer, and Shashi, the Deputy Range Officer, visited the spot.
