Udupi: A 40-year-old man was murdered inside his Udupi home by three men, armed with sharp weapons. The incident was reported late on Tuesday night from the Subrahmanya Nagar area of Puttur village.

The deceased is identified as Vinay Devadiga.

The police all three attackers, namely, Akshay ( 34), Ajith ( 28), and Pradeep Acharya ( 29), from Kokkarne, Brahmavar.

According to preliminary investigation, the murder was an act of revenge. It was committed after Vinay allegedly shared a video of Akshendra being verbally abused by someone.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said the deceased's wife, Soumya Shri (31) filed a complaint and narrated the incident to the cops.

She stated in her complaint that her husband left for Udupi at 10 am on Tuesday and returned around 6.30 pm on the same day. Around 9.30 pm, when Soumya asked Vinay for dinner, he had some work outside, which she urged him to postpone for the next day. Then the couple, their daughter, and Vinay’s mother went to sleep at separate bedrooms.

However, at 11:15 pm, the wife heard the sound of the gate opening, followed by loud banging on the door. She went ahead to open the door and came across the three accused standing there.

It was learned that of the three, Akshendra and Ajith, were known to the family.

They asked for Vinay, but Soumya told them he was not home. She recalled the incident and mentioned that they barged inside the house and ignored her words.

She alleged that Akshendra was holding a machete, Ajith walked in with a long knife, and Pradeep carried a knife too.

All three searched the house for Vinay. When they opened the door to a room opposite the hall, Vinay, who was inside, woke up. The attackers tried to snatch his phone and attack him. Ajith grabbed Vinay tightly to prevent his escape, while Akshendra hit him on the head with the machete, and the third man attacked him with the knife.

She said that Vinay suffered deep injuries on his head, both arms, and forearms and was spot dead. The attackers then fled the scene in a scooter at around 11:30 pm.

A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Sections 329(4), 103(1) read with 3(5) of the BNS.

The SP said three suspects Akshendra alias Akshay, Ajith, and Pradeep Acharya surrendered at the police station after putting Vinay to death.

The police arrested them. Of the arrested, Pradeep Acharya, was an accused in a murder case reported at Bramhavar Police station in 2016.

The victim, Vinay, was also a prime accused in a murder case reported in Malpe police station in 2020 and was currently out on court bail.
