Mangaluru: In a major crackdown on drug peddling, CCB personnel arrested four individuals who were allegedly supplying narcotic substances across public places and targeting school and college students. The police seized 517.76 grams of MDMA worth around RS 50 lakh during the operation, said commissioner of police Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH.
Acting on reliable information, a CCB team led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik conducted a raid on Saturday, near the Sundaram Shetty Convention Hall on the Mangaluru–Udupi National Highway under the Mulki Police Station limits. The team intercepted a car in which the accused were reportedly waiting to sell the drugs.
The arrested individuals are Mohammed Shiyab alias Shiyab, a resident of Navunda village, Byndoor taluk, Kundapur, Mohammed Noushad alias Noushad, a resident of Naringana village, Ullal taluk, Imran alias Imba, a resident of Kasaba Bengre, Mangaluru and Nissar Ahmed alias Nissar, a resident of Brahmarakootlu, Bantwal taluk.
The police have also seized a car worth Rs 10 lakh and five mobilephones.
The commissioner said according to preliminary investigation, the arrested had procured the MDMA from a Nigerian national in Bengaluru.
A case has been registered at the Mulki Police Station under sections 22(C) and 21(C) of the NDPS Act, along with section 3(5) of the BNS Act.
