According to the officials, at around 1.40 pm, warder Santosh, attached to the district prison, was intercepted during a routine security check at the prison’s main gate by KSISF personnel Harsha K  and Somashekar, under the supervision of ASI Keerthikumar S. During frisking, the staff noticed suspicious items concealed in his clothes.

The officials recovered a package wrapped in khaki-coloured tape. The package contained around 41 grams of suspected ganja, 11 grams of tobacco, a mobile charging cable, an OTG device, a metallic tube-shaped object, and rolling papers.

When questioned, Santosh admitted that the items were handed over to him the previous evening (August 21) by a person named Jayaprakash, near a supermarket in Bejai. He was allegedly instructed to deliver them to an undertrial, identified as Pramod alias son of Veeresh, lodged in the jail.

Santosh reportedly tried to sneak the contraband inside by concealing it in his undergarments while reporting for duty. The seized items, along with the accused warder, were handed over to the authorities for further legal action.

The KSISF officials filed a detailed report of the incident and lodged a
complaint with the Barke police seeking appropriate action against the warder.
