Mangaluru: As announced in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) budget for 2024-25, the MCC handed over incentives for top scorers in SSLC from Kannada medium schools, Kambala organised in city limits, Patla Foundation for teaching Yakshagana for free to government schoolchildren and a national level athlete.
In addition, health insurance that provides coverage of Rs 5 lakh for employees of MCC from D group to officers and their families—‘Sibandi Kutumba mithra’ was launched at the Mangala council hall of MCC by Mayor Manoj Kumar on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that under ‘Jnana Siri Yojane’, a total of 45 students who have secured above 90 per cent marks in SSLC examinations were given away a total of Rs 2.25 lakh.
Patla Foundation has been teaching Yakshagana for free to the students studying in government schools in Mangaluru city limits. As announced in the budget, an incentive of Rs 10 lakh was given away to the Foundation under the scheme —“Yakshaganam- Vishwaganam.” Ayush R Devadiga, a sprinter who has won national level championship and a student of Canara College was given an incentive of Rs 50,000 on the occasion.
To promote Kambala, the budget had announced incentives for Kambala organisers in the city limits. Accordingly, Jaya – Vijaya Kambala at Jeppinamogaru and Sankupoonja – Devupoonja Jodukare Kambala at Thiruvail were given Rs 2.5 lakh each.
Chief Whip in the Council Premananda Shetty said that one per cent of the revenue generated in the MCC is used for the welfare of the people. Along with the construction of roads, drains, the MCC has also taken up people-friendly initiatives. The health insurance coverage for the employees is implemented for the first time among the ULBs in Karnataka. Without health insurance facilities, the MCC had to bear the expenses of the treatment of the employees, by passing the agenda in the council of the MCC. With the health insurance, the staff will get cashless treatment, he added.
Taxation, Finance and Appeal Standing Committee Chairman Manohar Shetty, Leader of opposition in council Anil Poojary, Deputy Mayor Bhanumathi P S and others were present.
