Mangaluru: The Surathkal police arrested four persons on the charges of stealing diesel from tankers parked in the tanker yard without the knowledge of their owners at Bala in Mangaluru taluk.

Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that the police had received information on illegal theft and storage of diesel from tankers on January 13. Acting on the information, officials raided the location and found suspects stealing diesel from a tanker's lower compartment and storing it in a nearby shed.

The arrested are Santhosh (42) from Kulaigudde, Airon Ritesh Minej (36 ) from 3rd Block, Katipalla, Narayana (23 ) from Kadirudhyavara and Ravi Janandra Putran (59 )from Hejamadi, Udupi district.

The seized items include 1685 liters of diesel, 20 liters of petrol, totaling 1705 liters, along with other assets and four mobile phones. The confiscated diesel and petrol are valued at Rs 1,52,000, and the other items, including mobiles, are worth Rs 50,000.

A case has been registered at the Surathkal Police Station under Sections 287 and 303(1) of the BNS Act 2023, Sections 3, 4, 5 read with 23 of the Petroleum Products (Maintenance of Petroleum Storage and Supply Order), and Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, as well as Sections 3 and 5 of the Essential Commodities Act, said the commissioner.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCP (Law and Order) Siddarth Goyal, and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Ravishankar, with supervision by Assistant Police Commissioner of North Subdivision, Shrikant K. The team included ASI Prakash Murthy, head constables Udayakumar , Kumaraswamy , police constables Halesh Nayak, Sunil , Anand , Ashok and Basavaraj.
