Mangaluru: The customs officers at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) seized gold and saffron worth Rs 1,15,54,061 from three passengers who arrived from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Mangaluru.

Officials on noticing suspicious movement of three passengers, hailing from Kasargod and Honnavar by Air India and Indigo flights between December 8 and 11, detained a passenger and recovered gold in paste form concealed inside his underwear.

In another case, gold in two oval shaped objects secreted in the body was recovered. Further, gold in powder form concealed by pasting / inserting in the base of the passenger checked in carton box, and small rings of 24 K purity weighing 1429 grams, assorted gold jewellery of 18 K purity weighing 48 grams, and saffron weighing 478 grams have been recovered. Further investigation is in progress.
