Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport has managed the highest ever passenger numbers in the financial year 2024-25. With 2.32 million passengers, the airport has surpassed its previous record of 2.26 million passengers handled in FY2017-18.
The growth is 24.1 per cent compared to the pre-Covid19 FY 2019-20, when the airport managed 1.87 million passengers.
The airport managed an additional 15.34 per cent passengers in FY 2024-25 as against the previous FY2023-24 when 2.01million passengers were managed. In real terms, the airport handled 3.09 lakh more passengers in 2024-25 when compared to previous year.
The spurt in passenger growth comes primarily from the domestic sector, with 1.61 million passengers passing through the airport in FY2024-25 as against 1.40 million passengers in the previous financial year, a growth of 14.55 per cent.
The number of international passengers travelling jumped by 17.15 per cent in FY 2024-25 with 7.15 lakh passengers travelling to various overseas destinations as against 6.10 lakh passengers in FY 2023-24.
The airport has also recorded a growth in air traffic movements (ATMs) in FY2024-25 where it managed 16,816 domestic, international and general aviation traffic. This is 11.26 per cent higher than the 15,113 ATMs in FY2023-24.
In the international sector, the airport recorded a 22.14 per cent increase in ATMs, having handled 4,286 ATMs in FY 2024-25 against 3,509 in the previous fiscal. On the domestic front, the growth in ATMs for FY 2024-25 is 8.94 per cent (12,244 ATMs vis-à-vis 11,239 ATMs in FY2023-24).
The airport handled 3,864.1 metric tonnes (MT) of domestic cargo in FY2024-25 as compared to 3,706.02 MT of cargo in FY2023-24. Domestic cargo operations at the Integrated Cargo Terminal began on May 1, 2023.
Likewise, on the international front, the airport started cargo operations from July 2024 and handled 1347.07 MT of cargo, including 1,346.27 tonne of outbound and 0.79 MT of inbound cargo till March 31, 2025.
The airport began FY 2025-26 with robust growth on the passenger front, managing 2,17,893 passengers in April 2025, the highest per month passengers since October 31, 2020.
This includes 1,43,117 domestic and 74,776 international passengers spread across 1,182 domestic and 392 international ATMs. The airport also handled its highest ever 8,103 passengers for a single day on April 12, bettering the 8,086-mark achieved on February 22, 2025.
