Mangaluru: On the directions of AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, a delegation comprising Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, AICC Secretary BK Hariprasad, Chief Minister's Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed, Congress leader GA Bava, and Manjeshwar MLA AKM Ashraf visited the family of Ashraf, who was allegedly killed in a mob lynching incident in Mangaluru's Kudupu.
Ashraf hailed from Pulpally of Kerala's Wayanad district.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the legal course of action to be taken in the case. It was decided that the state government would appoint special public prosecutors to handle the case effectively. The team also deliberated on extending compensation under the anti-mob lynching laws to the family of the deceased.
As a humanitarian gesture, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan handed over Rs 10 lakh from his personal account to the victim’s family. Similarly, Speaker UT Khader provided Rs 5 lakh as financial support from his own funds.
Ashraf was killed in mob lynching on April 27 in Kudupu and the city police have arrested 15 persons. The police had booked a case under sections 103(2), 115(2), 189(2), 190, 191(1), 191(3), 240 of the BNS Act 202.
