White Doves Founder Corrine Rasquinha said that Shivkumar was found living at the bus stand outside the Superintendent of Police office in Pandeshwar in Mangaluru.

With no memory of his past, he was taken by the NGO members to their home for destitutes. Rasquinha said that Shivkumar would often make sudden loud sounds and keep talking to himself. He would also try walking outside saying that he’s going home but did not know where his home was.

After his treatment, he recently remembered names of his uncles and furnished some details. Based on the details, Manager Jerald worked on it for two weeks till he tracked down the uncle in Chhattisgarh.

Shivkumar was mentally challenged since childhood and had moved to Delhi along with his mother and uncle after his father’s death in 2008 where he worked at construction sites. They lived close to the railway station. Shivkumar would often hang out near the railway station.

Unfortunately, his mother fell off a building in 2009 and broke her hip due to which she remained bed ridden. As a result, his uncles took his mother to Chhattisgarh, leaving Shivkumar in Delhi. When they returned back to Delhi, they could not trace Shivkumar. Their frantic search yielded no results. His bed-ridden mother who was heartbroken and longed to see her son passed away two years ago, said Rasquinha.

After the White Doves were successful in contacting the family of Shivkumar, the family members, including his uncle and cousin visited White Doves to take him back to his native Chhattisgarh to live with his younger brother and family.

The family members were happy to reunite with Shivkumar and thanked White Doves for caring for Shivkumar.

White Doves has successfully reunited 450 individuals with their families so far, Rasquinha added.
