Maoist banners and handbills were found at Bukudibail in Nemmar gram panchayat, 18 kms away from Sringeri on Tuesday.

Six handbills were found tied to a rope in front of a shop belonging to Talagar Umesh Shetty. Three cloth banners were found at a bus shelter. Some of the handbills were found pasted on the walls of the bus shelter.

The banners and handbills opposed the policies of the government. “Comrade Kuppuswamy and Comrade Ajith Amar Rahe” was written in red ink.

The banners and handbills called upon the people to oppose the implementation of Kasturirangan Committee report on Western Ghats and also oppose the BJP government that had put people to hardship through demonetisation move.

“Let us condemn the move of the Central government to implement GST, which is aimed at taking away the autonomy of the state government. All attempts to suppress the movement of farmers should be condemned,” it said.

The police suspect that the Maoists must have put up the banners in the wee hours of Tuesday and left for Sooji Gudda. The Sringeri police rushed to the spot and seized the banners and handbills.
