Marriage video goes viral: Police checking whether norms flouted

Bantwal Rural Police have booked cases against people including the groom for violating the lockdown norms while organising a marriage function.

A video of many youths dancing without wearing masks and flouting social distancing norms had gone viral on social media. The video clipping claimed that the marriage function had taken place on July 1.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B M Laxmi Prasad said that Bantwal Rural Police Station Sub Inspector who had initiated a probe found that the video that was circulated in social media was genuine.

The organisers of the marriage function had taken permission from the local panchayat to organise the marriage with 50 guests. However, violating the norms, a DJ was hired and a group dance also took place.

The police have booked a case against groom Tilak Raj, his father Shivappa Poojary and others under Sections 269, 270 of IPC, and Section 5(1) of Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Ordinance Act.
