Ballari Rural MLA Nagendra said, “The Waqf Amendment Act that the central government wants to implement is an attack on the Constitution. This is an attempt to snatch the rights of minorities. We will not let this Act be implemented,” he said.

“This is a fight against the Act, not a fight against another religion. Hindus and Muslims are like brothers. However, the central government is working to oppress minorities through this Act,” he said, expressing his protest by tearing up a copy of the Act. “I have faith in the Supreme Court. The state government is with the Muslims. We will not allow Prime Minister Modi to play foul in Karnataka. I will not bow my head before Modi,” MLA Nagendra expressed his anger.

MLA Bharat Reddy said, “Muslims have sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. Now we will fight for the rights of Muslims by pledging our lives.”

The central government has an evil intention to divert people’s attention from the price hike by bringing this Act, he said. Before the stage programme, MLA Nara Bharat Reddy flagged off a protest march that started from the Kanekal bus stand in the City. After the protest, a memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Prashanth Kumar Mishra. Lidkar President Mundrigi Nagaraj, Waqf Board District President Humayun Khan, Mayor Mullangi Nandish, A Manaiah, Qazi Ghulam Siddiqui, DCC President Allam Prashant, Hussain Peera, Kanekal Mehboobasaab, Allahabhakshya, Congress spokesperson Venkatesh Hegde, corporation members Jabbar, Kubera, Peeram Vivek and others were present.
