Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has said that a massive public awareness campaign involving parents is crucial in the fight against drug addiction in the district.
He said that the police department must continue operations against drug menace. Public support is crucial in preventing young people from falling prey to drug addiction.
A large-scale awareness campaign will be launched in collaboration with parents, educational institutions, government departments, and the public to strengthen the fight against drug abuse.
Lauding the Mangaluru police for uncovering narcotics worth Rs 75 crore by arresting two foreign nationals, Captain Chowta said, "As soon as I became an MP, in my very first parliamentary session last year, I raised concerns in the Lok Sabha about the drug mafia operating in Mangaluru and the coastal region. I urged the police department to take strict action to eliminate it. Now, looking at the drug network unearthed by the Mangaluru police, it is evident how widespread this menace has become," he said.
