The city wore a deserted look as people stayed indoors after casting their ballot, but it was a different story at Mysuru Road, where people hurrying for a quick weekend getaway created a traffic jam.

Commuters experienced traffic bottlenecks from Bengaluru to Bidadi. To make matters worse, there was no traffic police to control the situation as many officers were deployed for election duty.

Suresh, a local resident, cast his vote at 7 am as he planned to leave for Chikkamagaluru with his family for a weekend trip. "We did not want to refrain from our duty of voting. Hence, we decided to cast our votes early in the morning and leave for the trip."

Suresh is one of the many professionals who left the city for the weekend after performing their democratic duty. Similarly, many others left the city for places like Coorg and Mysuru.
