Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice president V R Sudarshan on Thursday, said, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati had to distance herself from the Congress party in the wake of the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.

He hoped that she would again join hands to form a strong front during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing reporters here, Sudarshan said, the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has failed to fulfill the promises even as his term is nearing an end. "The people are upset and are expecting a change. Though the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was a good initiative, people suffered due to faulty implementation. The country’s economy is in a pathetic condition. Hence, secular parties should join hands and Mayawati will also return," he said.

Commenting on the byelections, Sudarshan said, the elections are being held in the state as a technical need. "There was no need for the elections now. But, it has become inevitable for the political parties to face it. As the bypolls are being held at five places at different locations, the Congress-JD(S) coalition plays an important role," he said.

“The country’s economy has weakened after Manmohan Singh stepped down as prime minister. He had waived off Rs 72,000 crore farm loans. Is it possible for Modi now? Modi has forgotten the priorities in development. Foreign investment too has crashed,” he said.
