Belagavi: Urban Development Department Government Secretary and Appellate Authority Deepa Cholan has upheld the orders of the Regional Commissioner, Belagavi disqualifying Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) corporators Jayant Jadhav and Mangesh Pawar as they continued to hold shops at ‘tinnisu katte’ in the names of their spouses even after getting elected as corporators of the civic body.

Disqualification orders by the Regional Commissioner, Belagavi were stayed by the Karnataka High Court in the month of March and Mangeh Pawar was elected as mayor of BCC.

Social worker Sujit Mulgund had complained to Regional Commissioner that BJP corporators Jayant Jadhav and Mangesh Pawar had continued to retain shops in the names of their spouses Sonali Jayant Jadhav and Neeta Mangesh Pawar respectively at Rani Channabhairadevi Food Court (Tinnisu Katte) constructed by Public Works Department even after getting elected as corporators.

Based on the complaint, Regional Commissioner S B Shettannavar had conducted hearings and had issued orders disqualifying Jayant Jadhav representing ward No 23 and Mangesh Pawar representing ward No 41, as corporators of BCC on February 10.

Urban Development Department Secretary Deepa Cholan had upheld the disqualification of the corporators by Regional Commissioner after hearing their appeal. Both Jadhav and Pawar had availed stay for the disqualification orders and had appealed before the appellate authority.

Appeal by Jadhav and Pawar was heard on March 11, May 17, June 5 and June 11, and arguments of appellants were heard.

Reports were submitted by the concerned Regional Commissioner, Belagavi, Deputy Commissioner, Belagavi, complainant Sujit Mulgund, Public Works Department Executive Engineer and BCC Commissioner. Based on the reports and the arguments made during the appeal hearings, Cholan under the provisions of KMC Act 1976 Section 26(3) rejected appeal of Jadhav and Pawar and upheld the decision of Regional Commissioner, Belagavi of disqualifying themon Thursday.
