Speaking to the minister on the phone on Saturday, he said trains to Vijayapura and Bagalkot stop at Hubballi and Gadag for hours to change engines. Trains can go through bypasses in both places, he said.

He requested that if existing trains could not run on bypass route, new train services must at least be dedicated to help passengers. Somanna reportedly responded positively. He said he would discuss this with officials in Delhi soon.
