Chairman of Karnataka Media Academy  M A Ponnappa on Thursday said that media crossing its limits is not a healthy sign.

Addressing students at a State-level interaction on ‘Media trends’ organised by the department of mass communication and journalism of Maharaja’s College here as part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, Ponnappa said that changing technology has caused significant changes in the field of media both print and electronic.

Media trial

Ponnappa termed media trial, the new found fad, in the realm, as a dangerous development that could be construed as an interference with the judiciary. He recalled that High Court judge N Kumar had voiced a similar concern in the recent past.

In his call to budding journalists, Ponnappa said that the young scribes lacked awareness and this problem could be addressed through adequate training programmes.

Senior journalist S K Shyamsundar said that leftist, rightist and even other ‘ism’ practicing journalists had emerged in the media, which he termed as another dangerous development.

Faith

Journalists should abstain themselves from such leanings, else people would lose their faith in the media, he said.

Shyamsundar also said that budding journalists lacked reading and writing skills, which was a must for journalists. Shyamsundar asserted that internet on cellphone was the future of communication.
