It was a meeting of different kind in Mandya with not a single officer turning up to be witness to the meeting.
Though there was confusion over their absence, the CMC meeting held on Wednesday went on smoothly even in the absence of the officials. Ironically, all officials including CMC commissioner Prakash were absent for the meeting, which irked the members who attended the meeting.
About 18 members attended the meeting. Standing Committee president Sridhar who spoke on the occasion said though the meeting was convened by the CMC commissioner and the president, the commissioner has absented himself.
Some of the members too who had been demanding to hold a meeting have not attended it. They should have informed earlier if they are not able to attend the meeting or should have come and explained their inability. The officials should give an explanation for their absence, he said.
Not right
One of the members Hosahalli Boregowda opined that it is not right for the members to neglect the meeting. They should have informed and cancelled or postponed the meeting, he said and demanded clarification from the president.
Member Puttankaiah said that while both the president and the commissioner had invited everybody for the meeting they should have at least informed about the cancellation. It is not right of them after sending invite to everybody, he said.
President M P Arunkumar said CMC commissioner had assured to attend the meeting. He also said that the meeting could have been held after getting legal opinion.
Some members even tried to contact the officials, but in vain.
The president then suggested that they themselves would go and bring the officials to the meeting.
As the members were on their way to bring the officials shouting slogans beke beku; nyaya beku... the officials made a quiet exit.
So, they had no other option but to continue the meeting in the absence of the officers with standing committee president reading the report followed by discussions.
