Mining scam: SIT books cases against Dharam, HDK

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing illegal mining in the state on Wednesday registered cases against former chief ministers N Dharam Singh and H D Kumaraswamy.

Besides these two former chief ministers, the SIT also registered cases against as many as 11 serving and retired officers. Cases were registered as per the direction of the Supreme Court. The top court on March 29 had asked the SIT to register cases.

Sources said that the court had asked the SIT to complete the probe within three months. Dharam Singh and Kumaraswamy are accused of allowing mining in reserved forest areas in Ballari district.

Officials against whom the cases were registered include M Basappa Reddy, Gangaram Baderiya, V Umesh, I Perumal, K S Manjunath, D S Ashwath, Jija Hari Singh, Mahendra Jain, K Srinivas, M Ramappa and Shankarlingaiah.
