Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader played the role of a Good Samaritan by helping a snake bite victim in availing of emergency treatment in the wee hours of Monday.

Santosh Kumar, a soldier of the Indian Army and a resident of Mudipu Kodakallu on the outskirts of Mangaluru, was bitten by a poisonous snake. Kumar was rushed to a private hospital where his family members were informed that 10 injections were required for treatment and the hospital had no adequate stock.

Kumar's brother called the minister and sought his help around 1.15 am. Khader rushed to the private hospital and made arrangements for the supply of injections from Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. Kumar is now recovering.

Santhosh Kumar had sustained serious injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara, Jammu, on October 12, 2016. He had come to his native to attend a family function.

AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal too on Monday met Kumar in the hospital and enquired his health.
