The drop in the intensity of rain continued for the second day with the intermittent drizzle allowing normal life even as political leaders sought to make promises and send positive messages to the flood-hit residents of Kodagu district.
Relief materials continued to pour in from across the state. Some of the leaders took the materials directly to villages and started distributing them among the needy.
District incharge and Housing Minister U T Khader said steps will be taken to provide housing facilities to those who have lost their homes. “We have looked into a 42-acre space for constructing houses for flood victims. If the place is found to be suitable, we will take steps soon,” he said.
He said the district administration has already begun a survey for providing rehabilitation. “Preliminary survey has been done at Karnangeri, K Nidugane, 1st Monnangeri and Katakeri area.”
Khader promised that alternative sites will be allotted to residents of 16 houses on the river bank in Kushalnagar. “We have also decided to bring in a building bylaw for a comprehensive housing scheme. A single-window system will be in place,” he said.
RDPR Minister Krishna Byregowda said roads will be rebuilt immediately to restore connectivity between villages.
