The inquiry, conducted by Women and Child Development Minister P M Narendraswamy, reportedly stated that these files have been rebuilt with the help of available data. The minister submitted the report to Legislative Council Chairman Veeranna Mathikatti on Wednesday.

The Council chairman had directed the government to hold an inquiry into missing of files after the issue was raised in the Council by members in both the treasury and the Opposite benches. As many as 890 files of the Commission had gone missing. BJP member Vimala Gowda had suspected involvement of the former chairperson Pramila Nesargi.

The Opposition parties had alleged that the Government misplaced the files with an intention to safeguard BJP MLA Renukacharya, against whom Jayalakshmi, a nurse, had filed a complaint with the Commission.

Narendraswamy had assured the House on August 1, 2008 of a detailed inquiry.
