Two sons of Khanapur legislator, Prahlad Remani, were arrested after they allegedly assaulted a police officer at around midnight on Thursday. They were produced before the court on Friday.

Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Patil, told Deccan Herald that the Remani brothers Pratap and Sharad were spotted loitering with another person near Rumewadi Cross in Khanapur on Thursday night. The three men appeared to be  inebriated.

When Assistant Sub-inspector, M S Mathapati, asked them to go home, the brothers allegedly assaulted the officer and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not go away.

Cases were filed against Pratap and Sharad under the provisions of the Karnataka Police Act. “Cases may also be filed against them under the Indian Penal Code after Mathapati filed another complaint against them,” Patil said, although he denied the brothers had assaulted the officer.

Belgaum Rural Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pavan Nijjur, will investigate the incident, Patil added.
