Bengaluru: A delegation of BJP legislators, led by party state president B Y Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, met Governor Thaawardchand Gehlot on Monday seeking latter’s intervention in revoking the the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with the Governor, Vijayendra accused Assembly Speaker U T Khader of succumbing to pressure from the Congress party and acting in an undemocratic manner.
He added that the BJP had repeatedly urged the Speaker to reconsider the suspension, but no action had been taken.
Leader of the Opposition Ashoka stated that the Governor assured them of writing to the government and initiating discussions with the Speaker on the issue. He also pointed out that when the BJP was in power, the Congress legislators had stormed the Speaker’s podium and the government resolved the issue democratically, without resorting to harsh measures like suspensions.
