Mangaluru: Jabbar, brother of Ashraf from Pulpally in Wayanad district of Kerala, submitted a memorandum to District in-Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, urging an impartial investigation and justice in the mob lynching case that occurred during a cricket match in Kudupu in Mangaluru.
In a memorandum, he said, “My brother Ashraf was murdered near Kudupu in Mangaluru on April 27. Several lapses have been found in the investigation process conducted by the police department. There were procedural lapses in filing an FIR and in the investigation, leading to the suspension of three personnel, including the investigating officer."
"However, a new officer has yet to be appointed. A capable police officer must be assigned immediately to ensure a fair and impartial investigation. We demand justice,” Jabbar stated in his appeal.
He further urged that the compensation due to the victim’s family in cases of mob lynching be declared immediately. “As per the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Tehseen Poonawalla case, mob lynching cases should be tried in Fast Track court. Accordingly, this case must be transferred accordingly. This is the first mob lynching case to come to light in Karnataka after the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023."
"A Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) must be appointed at the earliest. The Supreme Court’s guidelines in the Tehseen Poonawalla case must be implemented strictly to ensure such incidents do not recur again,” he emphasised.
Former Mayor Ashraf, Congress leader Shahul Hameed and others were also present.
