The state government on Thursday cleared senior IPS officer Pronab Mohanty's  name for central deputation as Deputy Director General (DDG) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in Bengaluru.

A 1994 batch IPS officer, Mohanty is in the thick of controversy after he being named as one of the accused in DySP M K Ganapathi suicide case in Madikeri.

A source in the government confirmed that the process of shortlisting the officer to head UIDAI's Regional Office in Bengaluru had begun around six months ago. Mohanty, who is presently IGP Lokayukta, was keen on the posting. Around three months ago Mohanty's name was shortlisted and the file was cleared on Thursday.

Mohanty had worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for seven years and after getting back to the state, he worked in the Lokayukta, Bengaluru Police Commissionerate and in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A senior official from the DPAR said that soon an order will be issued and Mohanty will be relieved from the Lokayukta.
