Out of 7,000 candidates, 550 have been found fit in medical and physical screening and are eligible for written Common Entrance Examination, said deputy director general of Army recruitment office of Bangalore Brig M M Gupta.
At a press conference here on Saturday, he said the response for the Army recruitment rally is good compared to last year, but more candidates were expected. “The response is better compared to last year.”
He said, around 2,000 candidates from Karnataka are recruited in the army.
In any state 10 per cent of male population would be recognised as recruitable male population. “From Karnataka 5.7 per cent of recruitment in nation’s army vacancy would be expected to fill and from Kerala it is 2.9 per cent. Though Karnataka sometime fails to meet the fulfillment, it is not bad,” he said.
Disagreeing to the generalisation that usually response is best in north India compared to southern parts, Gupta said, “South Indians are plenty in Army now.”
Process
Explaining the process of recruitment, he said candidates after fulfilling requirements of physical fitness test which includes 1.6 kilometres of run, nine feet ditch, zig zag balance and pull ups conducted by individual team of officers, they would be eligible for physical measurement test and there after medical examination conducted by three Army Medical Corps.
Candidates found fit are given admit card to Common Entrance Test (CEE), which would be generally conducted on last Sunday of each month, with set of questions of combination of State and Central syllabus.
Regarding candidates who are declared unfit during medical examination Gupta said, “candidates are permitted to take review of specialists in Army hospitals.
Temporary unfit candidates are given 42 days and permanent unfit candidates are given 21 days for completion of review by specialists after primary medical examination.”
“Candidates with education of about eighth and SSLC have good opportunities to join the Army with a starting salary of about Rs 15,000 per month along with facilities of medical, accommodation, food and other facilities for free.
“Perks are guaranteed with opportunity for upgrading skills,” he added.
Clarifying why the documents are asked to be produced in English, he said as recruiting officials are not regional, documents are asked to be produced in English.
“As there were problems with candidates for documentation in English, with the help of district administration documents are translated, which would help candidates not to be deprived of the recruitment process,” he said.
