Two persons were injured when a lightning struck their house at Fareed Nagar in Harekala on the outskirts of Mangalore in the wee hours of Monday.
The injured are Thahira and her child Shahina. The house has developed cracks. All electrical appliances were damaged in the incident.
Dakshina Kannada district received mild rain on Sunday night. Several arecanut, coconut and mango trees were uprooted following gusty wind and rain in Padukudoor in Hebri. A two-wheeler parked near a shop was damaged when a tree fell on it at Padukudoor. A few houses have also been damaged. Nadpalu, Megadde, Muniyalu, Ajekaru and Mundli areas in Hebri received hailstones.
The roofs of over 50 houses were damaged and hundreds of areca, coconut and teak wood trees were uprooted in some villages in Lakkavalli hobli in Tarikere taluk, due to heavy rain. Over 25 electricity poles too were damaged and one transformer burst because of lightning.
