Davangere: Two people died in a fire which broke out due to an electrical short circuit in a house in Kayipete on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Vimala (75) and her son Kumar (35), residents of Kayipete. Four other members of the family were injured and admitted to the District General Hospital.

A fire broke out at a house belonging to BJP leader H M Rudramuniswamy at 4 am on Tuesday due to an electrical short circuit. Four of the six people in the house had managed escaped.

The mother and son were unable to escape due to thick smoke, Basavanagar police said.

Firefighters and emergency service personnel who rushed to the spot rescued the mother and son who were trapped in the room and admitted them to the hospital.

As they were seriously injured, both died without responding to treatment, police said.
