Devanahalli Venkataramanaiah Gundappa, popularly known as DVG, was a great Kannada writer and a philosopher. He is best known for his Manku Thimmana Kagga, a collection of verses.
DVG was born in 1887 in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district. The littterateur died on 7th October, 1975.
School and road
On the occasion of his birth centenary celebrations on March 17, 1987 in Mulbagal, and in his memory, his brick and mortar home was converted into a school, a road named after him and also an eponymous library and ranga mandira (theatre hall) set up.
The library and ranga mandira are not functioning and are in a dilapidated condition. The statue of DVG near the Ranga Mandira is disfigured. People are hesitating to go to the library because of bad smell.
Some years ago a project was initiated for the installation of a statue of DVG near KEB Circle, but the work on it remains incomplete.
