"Hundreds of muslim leaders who hold posts from booth level to KPCC will tender resignation to their posts at a meeting being convened at Shadi Mahal on Thursday," Dakshina Kannada Congress minority cell President Shahul Hameed told DH when contacted.

The decision to resign from Congress party which we had served through out our life was unanimous. We are resigning in protest against the failure of Home department, he said.

Sahul Hameed said a series of assaults and murder of innocent persons are being witnessed in the district. Sangh Parivar leaders are issuing death threats in full public view with the fear of law.

The police have failed to prevent these miscreants from making a mockery of law. Those responsible for destruction of public property were released within few hours of arrest by police, he said.

Anti Communal Task force still not a reality

"The police have not been able to keep these rowdy elements on a leash, despite mounting pressure on the congress government. Thus we can no longer remain helpless and thus submit resignation to our posts enmasse on Thursday," he said. KPCC Secretary Inayath Ali said the Home Minister's assurances on initiating stringent action against communal goondas including the setting up of Anti Communal Task force has not materialised so far.

"The government should take stringent action against those inciting people into violence and disrupting communal harmony in the region. The government must now guarantee a life of dignity, to live in peace and harmony. The government must conduct an impartial enquiry and arrest all those involved in the murder of an innocent youth," he urged.
