Reports of the mysterious sound being heard at around 11:30 am have been received from Mysore, Chamarajnagar and also T Narasipura.

Residents of Vijaynagar, Kuvempunagar, Vidyaranyapuram, Yadavgiri, Jayalakshmipuram and Saraswatipuram said that the sound shook their window pane. Also, a few persons came out of their houses out of fear.

When contacted, officers at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bangalore said no seismological activity had been recorded in the region.

Reports of the sound were also received by the Director and Inspector General of Police (DG&IG) headquarters in Bangalore.

The headquarters immediately alerted its control room in Chamarajnagar seeking details.
Officers at the Chamarajnagar control room said they had contacted various police stations, the mines and geology department (for quarry blasts) but could not trace the source of the sound. There have been reports that the sound was heard from the sky leading to speculation that it could be a sonic boom from a fighter plane crossing the sound barrier.
Meanwhile, repeated efforts to contact officials of the State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre in Bangalore was of no avail.
