Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike: Area of MCC to grow by 255.138sq km

Mysuru: Even as the State cabinet has approved the proposal to upgrade Mysore City Corporation (MCC) to Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike (BMMP), the area of MCC will now increase by 255.138 sq kms. With Bengaluru choking and Mysuru is considered second only to Bengaluru for mainly investors, this step is significant.

The proposal has been approved by the Cabinet led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act 1976, section 3, 4, 500 and 501, to bring areas under schedule A within new boundaries fixed under schedule B.

The existing area of MCC spread over 86.310 sq kms will now become 341.448 sq kms. As per 2011 census and projection for 2025, the population of Mysuru city is about 11.5 lakh now. With new areas added to MCC, the population will increase to 14,41,000. A new revenue zone will be added to the existing nine zones of Mysuru city. Also new wards will be added to existing 65 wards of Mysuru, according to MCC Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), G S Somashekar.

He added that the new areas will be notified soon. They will invite suggestions and objections if any from the general public and complete the notification process. The entire process of formulation of BMMP is likely to be completed by April 2026, Somashekar said.

As many as 54 areas under one City Municipal Council (CMC), four Town Panchayats (TP) and eight Grama Panchayats (GP) will now be included within BMMP.

Areas under Hootagalli City Municipal Council (CMC) including Hootagalli (3.444 sq km), Koorgalli (4.339 sq km), Hebbaalu (12.243 sq km), Hinakal (7.355 sq km), Belawadi (7.195 sq km) will become part of BMMP.

Areas under four TPs which will come under BMMP. Those include Bogadi (8.452 sq km), Maratikyathanahalli (3.844 sq km), Jattihundi (1.870 sq km), Kergalli (7.920 sq km), Basavanahalli (4.414 sq km), Madahalli (3.184 sq km), K Hemmanahalli (5.965 sq km), Kemmannapura (1.67 sq km) under Bogadi Town Panchayat; Srirampura (5.861 sq km), Lingambudipalya (3.366 sq km), Goruru (3.398 sq km), Koppalooru (1.764 sq km), Kalalavadi ( 6.143 sq km) under Srirampura Town Panchayat; Kadakola (7.813 sq km), Gudamaadanahalli (1.797 sq km), Bandipalya (2.506 sq km), Hosahundi (2.134 sq km), Marashe (3.321 sq km), Madaragalli (3.070 sq km), Mandakalli (8.353 sq km), Sarkaari Utthanahalli (5.816 sq km) under Kadkola TP; Rammanahalli (5.765 sq km), Naadanahalli (2.540 sq km), Hanchya (9.598 sq km), Saathagalli (3.025 sqkm) coming under Rammanahalli Town Panchayat.

Areas under eight GPs will come under BMMP. Those include Yelwala (8.930 sq km), Karakanahalli (4.280 sq km), Maidanahalli (5.510 sq km), Megalapura (2.500 sq km) coming under Yelwala Gram Panchayat; Nagawala (8.750 sq km), Bommanahalli (6.912 sq km), Huyilaalu (7.663 sq km) under Nagawala Gram Panchayat; Mellahalli-Beerihundi (2.563 sq km), Ghohalli (1.486 sq km), Kumarabeedu (2.526 sq km), Ballahalli (4.262 sq km) under Mellahalli-Beerihundi Gram Panchayat; Dhanagalli (3.315 sq km), Yadahalli (2.977 sq km), Kenchalagoodu (3.318 sq km), Haalaalu (2.231 sq km), Chowdalli (Kotehundi) (2.631 sq km) under Dhanagalli Gram Panchayat;Chamundi Hill (5.731 sq km) under Chamundi Hill Gram Panchayat; Lalithadripura (5.538 sq km), Alanahalli (4.050 sq km) under Alanahalli GP; Siddalingapura (0.739 sq km), Belawattha (5.908 sq km), Kesare (9.982 sq km), Metagalli (3.302 sq km) under Siddalingapura GP; Shadanahalli (1.871 sq km) under Naganahalli GP.
