New Delhi: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumarswamy on Wednesday urged Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw not to close down the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Mysuru Unit.

In his letter to Vaishnaw, the JD (S) leader said that under the proposed restructuring of the Regional & Field Offices of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, there is a plan to discontinue the CBC Mysuru Unit.

“The Mysuru unit plays an essential role in last-mile communication, coordination with district administrations, and timely dissemination of Government of India initiatives. Its closure would significantly affect communication outreach across Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan districts, all of which depend on a dedicated field office for effective information flow,” he said.

Mysuru and the surrounding districts hold immense cultural and historical importance. Known as the cultural capital of Karnataka, Mysuru is home to iconic heritage landmarks such as the Mysore Palace and the Jaganmohan Palace, and is renowned for its classical arts, literature, and the world-famous Dasara celebrations.

Considering the city's prominence and the large national and international attention it attracts, a functional CBC office is vital to ensure seamless communication, coordination and public outreach during major cultural and public events, Kumarswamy said.

“These districts also have sizable tribal populations, including the Jenu Kuruba, Kadu Kuruba, Soliga and Yerava communities, for whom consistent communication and focused outreach are crucial. Retaining the Mysuru office will help sustain engagement with these communities and support effective information dissemination in this strategically important region,” he said in his letter.
