Arbiya Bhanu (25), daughter of Jamrud Shareef, a resident of Sunnada Beedi of Bethadapura village, allegedly slit the throats of both her daughters - Anam Fathima (2) and the newborn - with a knife before, taking her own life.

Arbiya Bhanu was married to Sayed Musavir of the nearby Arenahalli village. It is alleged that Arbiya, a homemaker, was distressed because her elder child was a girl and was also disabled, and her younger child was also a girl. Due to despair, she allegedly killed both her children and then committed suicide by slitting her own throat, as per the complaint by Arbiya Bhanu’s father Jamrud Shareef, at Bethadapura Police Station.

Additional Superintendent of Police C Mallik, Circle Inspector Deepak, Tahsildar Nisargapriya, and PSI Ajay Kumar visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Later, the bodies were sent for post-mortem.

“Upon receiving information that Arbiya Bhanu in Bethadapura had slit the throats of her two daughters and then slit her own throat to commit suicide, we arrived at the scene and inspected the area. Observing that the windows and the room door were shut, it appears to be a case of suicide prima facie. There is a complaint, suggesting that she was distraught over having two girl children. Further details need to be gathered, regarding the crime,” said C Mallik, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mysuru.
