Mysuru: Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy has disqualified four BJP councillors of Nanjangud town, on Wednesday.
The membership of the four BJP members, who had defected to the Congress during the Nanjangud City Municipal Council (CMC) election has been cancelled by the DC.
Even though the BJP and JD(S) alliance had a majority in the CMC, Congress leader Srikantaswamy won the election and became the president with the support of the councillors in question.
The four BJP members are Girish Kumar (Ward No 1), Gayatri Murugesh (Ward No 12), Meenakshi Nagaraj (Ward No 22), and Vijayalakshmi Kumar (Ward No 27).
They violated the BJP’s whip by abstaining from voting, thereby facilitating the victory of the Congress candidate. The alliance nominee was defeated.
BJP Nanjangud city president Siddaraju and member Deva had filed a complaint with the DC regarding this, on October 29, 2024. The DC’s court, after conducting a hearing, canceled the membership of these members, under the Anti-Defection Law.
