Mysuru: Rangayana-Mysuru, a Mysuru-based government-sponsored repertory, is organising 'Grishma Rangotsava' in memory of well-known theatre person C. G. Krishnaswamy, popularly known as CGK, from June 29 to August 10.

Addressing a media conference in Mysuru on Thursday, Director of Rangayana, Satish Tiptur, said, “The plays will be staged on Sundays at 6.30 pm at Bhoomigeetha auditorium on seven Sundays, from June 29 to August 10. Amateur theatre troupes, including one from the neighbouring Kerala state, have been invited and given an opportunity.”

“The festival will be inaugurated on June 29 at 6 pm by theatre person and former Director of Rangayana-Mysuru, H. Janardhan (Janni). Member of Ranga Samaja H. S. Suresh Babu, Joint Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture V. N. Mallikarjunaswamy, and Assistant Director M. D. Sudarshan will participate as chief guests,” he informed. Ranga Samaja is the governing body managing six Rangayanas across Karnataka.

The play Smashaana Kurukshetra by Kuvempu, directed by Manjunath Byhatte, will be staged by artistes of Nepathya Ranga Tanda, Mysuru, on June 29; the play Ward No. 6 by Anton Chekhov, translated into Kannada by D. R. Nagaraj and directed by Mime Ramesh, will be staged by the Gesture, Posture, Imagination, Expression, and Rhythm (GPIER) troupe, Mysuru, on July 6; the play Ahalya BD by Henrik Ibsen, translated into Kannada by S. Surendranath and directed by Yatish N. Kollegala, will be staged by Workshop in Mysuru for Theatre Artistes on July 13; the play Parameshi Prema Prasanga by Srinivas Prabhu, directed by Raviprasad, will be staged by Rangavalli troupe, Mysuru, on July 20; the play Kalasutra by Aniketh Bhole, translated into Kannada by Prakash Parvartikar and directed by H. S. Suresh Babu, will be staged by Abhiyantararu, a troupe of engineers, Mysuru, on July 27; the play Nitya Sachiva by Rajappa Dalavayi, directed by Pramod Shiggaon, will be staged by Karnataka Sangha artistes, Mandya, on August 3; and the play Kuhu by Arun Lal will be staged by Atal Earth School of Theatre, Kerala, on August 10.

Suresh Babu and convener of the festival, Arasikere Yogananda of Rangayana, were present during the press meet.
