Mysuru city has been nominated for ‘Clean City’ and ‘Garbage-free City’ awards, under ‘Swacch Survekshan 2019’, city ranking survey, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), in January.

The Ministry has invited the MCC authorities to be a part of the award ceremony scheduled to be held in Delhi, on March 6. As many as 4,237 urban local bodies, across the country, had participated in Swachh Survekshan.

Mysuru, which had won the Cleanest City award twice in 2015 and 2016, had to be content with the best ‘Cleanest Medium City’ (for a population between three lakh and ten lakh) award, last year. It had slipped to the eighth spot in 2017 and 2018.

MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag told DH, the ranking will be announced during the ceremony. In addition to the city, Periyapatna, T Narsipur and Krishnarajanagar local bodies have been nominated for the awards.

V K Jindal, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, in communication to Principal Secretary to Urban Development Department Karnataka, Anjum Parvez, has stated that the city and the urban local bodies will be felicitated during the award ceremony by Minister of State (Independent) Hardeep Singh Puri. He requested the respective Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Officials concerned of MCC, TP, and TMC to attend the ceremony to receive the award.
