Mysuru: Mysuru City Police have bust 42 theft cases and have recovered valuables worth a total of Rs 63 lakh and have nabbed 19 accused, over the past two months.
Addressing a media conference, in Mysuru, on Monday, Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said, besides, 65.8 kg of ganja and 23 grams of MDMA ((3, 4-methylenedioxy-N-methamphetamine) has been recovered in 11 Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NSPS) Act cases, with an arrest of 13 accused.
Latkar said, the Mysuru City Police have solved eight chain-snatching, two house burglary, one theft by employee, 28 vehicle thefts, and three thefts cases over two months. The recovered items include 659 gram of gold ornaments, one kg silver items, 27 two-wheelers, one car, Rs 2.57 lakh in cash, and one laptop.
The personnel of Saraswathipuram Police Station have nabbed a first-time thief, in connection with a house burglary. They have recovered 287 gram of gold jewels from a receiver in West Bengal. The accused, a carpenter, was an expert in fixing door locks. He had taken the help of the internet to search for material to open digital locks. He had stolen only half of the gold jewels in the house, when there was nobody, and had planned to steal the remaining once again. However, the Police personnel traced him and apprehended him.
Devaraja Police Station personnel have arrested an accused, who had stolen 24 two-wheelers of a particular band (Honda Activa scooters). The Police have recovered 21 scooters under Devaraja limits, one under Lashkar limits, one under Udayagiri limits, and one under Gundlupet Station limits in Chamarajanagar district. The accused is a native of Chamarajanagar district and he had sold the vehicles in Chamarajanagar town, by telling the buyers that they were seized vehicles, for default in repaying loans. He had prepared a master key for the particular brand of the scooter and used it for the thefts.
The police have recovered two more two-wheelers from another accused in connection with cases under Devaraja and Lashkar Police Stations.
Lashkar Station Police have arrested three accused in connection with three cases, under their own limits, and another under Devaraja Station limits and have recovered four gold chains weighing a total of 175 grams.
Vidyaranyapuram Police have nabbed two accused and have recovered three chains weighing a total of 85 grams. The other cases in which recovery has been made are: Kuvempu Nagar – one chain snatching; Udayagiri – house burglary (gold jewels), laptop theft, VV Puram – one two-wheeler theft; Nazarbad – theft of Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, car (Mahinda XUV 500) theft; Metagalli – theft of silver items by employee; Vijayanagar – theft of copper components from a factory.
Among the 13 accused, under the NDPS Act, one woman is a repeat offender and she was arrested twice earlier, Latkar said.
