Mysuru: The Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) has achieved over 100 per cent of its target in person-days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme.
MNREGA, which supports the lives of the people in rural areas, has achieved 101.83 per cent of its target in the year 2024-25 in Mysuru district. While 3,38,973 lakh job cards have been distributed to the families in Mysuru district, 1,46,368 families' job cards are active, and 2,77,379 of them have benefited.
S Yukesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mysuru ZP, said, “It is gratifying that six out of the nine taluks of Mysuru district have exceeded the 100 per cent target and have provided employment to the needy people. This was possible because several projects were undertaken by the government under MNREGA. MNREGA always supports the lives of the rural people. The people of rural areas should become more aware of the scheme and utilise its benefits”.
He said, a target of 24,00,000 (2.4 million) person-days was fixed as a target for 2024-25 in Mysuru district, while 24,43,834 person-days, 101.83 per cent, was achieved. “Krishnaraja (KR) Nagar taluk has achieved 119.59 per cent of its target. M Krishnaraju, Deputy Secretary (Development), ZP, Mysuru, said, Mysuru district could achieve this feat in the MNREGA scheme, as many awareness programmes, including the ‘Why Migrate When You Get Employment Guarantee in Your Village’ campaign, were taken to the doorsteps of the people.
“Works related to groundwater rejuvenation and conservation, farmers' action plans, afforestation, school development works, construction of Sanjeevini sheds, construction of Anganwadi buildings, road works, drainage, and other community and individual works are included under MNREGA, benefiting the people, farmers, and workers,” he said.
“Under MNREGA, wages are fixed according to the policy of the respective states. Now, the Union government has issued an order increasing the wages. Accordingly, in Karnataka, the wage has been increased from Rs 349 in 2024-25 to Rs 370 in 2025-26. The wage of Rs 370 will be in effect from April 1,” Krishnaraju said.
